Support The Michael J. Fox Foundation For Parkinson's Research

Parkinson's Disease is a disease I hold close to my heart. The disease took my grandfather (pictured at the left when he was in his 20's) away from me way too soon. So far, a cure hasn't been found, but thanks to people like Michael J. Fox, they're a lot closer now than they were when my grandfather died back in the early 90's.

If you're not familiar with Parkinson's Disease, it's the disease that Muhammad Ali has been battling for most of his adult life. It's very frustrating for those afflicted with the disease because, for the most part, their mind is still functioning normally, but their body is not. Their body shakes. Their speech is slurred. They lose control over their bodily functions. And, as you'll hear in the interview below between Charlie Rose and Michael J. Fox, you never know how long you'll have to live with "this gift" as Fox calls it.

If you have some time, please watch this video. I've been a fan of Fox's since I was a kid. You may not agree with everything he believes in, but no one can deny that he's a remarkable individual who's raised a tremendous amount of money for the fight to find a cure for this disease.

If you'd like to help find a cure for Parkinson's Disease, please go to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research website or go to the National Parkinson Foundation's website to find out how you can help.

Thanks - Jason.

Make it a charitable day!

P.S. I miss you granddad. You were my hero.

Why Charity of the Day?

I've been blogging almost every day now for over three years. I have blogs that I hope make you laugh, sing, reminisce and even one that hopes to change your outlook on life. But, while watching the PGA Tour's Mercedes Benz Championship on television today, they had a short segment profiling Ernie Els and how he and his wife have coped with his six-year old son Ben's autism. Ernie is now trying to raise awareness of autism, and it made me think. What can I personally do to help not just families suffering from autism, but families suffering from all types of diseases, hardships, etc?

Well, this is my way of helping. I plan on featuring a different charity as often as I can. I know the title says Charity of the Day, but I'm not sure I'll able to find a different charity every day to feature. That's where you come in. I need your help. Do you have a favorite charity that you'd like me to feature? Let me hear from you?

In a way, this is my New Year's resolution. I vowed to make 2009 my best year ever, and I can't think of a better way to do that than to help bring awareness to causes that need all of our help.

Welcome to Charity of the Day. I'm glad you're here, and I hope you'll continue to visit and share this site with your friends and family.

Make it a charitable day!

Jason.
